For some, a family vacation just isn’t complete without bringing the dog along for the adventure. If that’s the case for you, Cape Cod might be the perfect destination for your next vacation.

Cape Cod is known to be quite dog-friendly, with multiple beaches, parks, shops, and Cape Cod rentals fit for a four-legged king or queen.

Below is a guide to local businesses and accommodations that welcome pets – they may even have a few treats behind the counter at some of these establishments.

Parks and Beaches

From Harwich to Yarmouth, there’s no end to the pet-friendly parks in Cape Cod. Here are a few of the options:

Cape Cod National Seashore: This dune-covered area is a short drive north of Chatham, just past Eastham. You can explore virtually every little part of the many cycling paths, hiking trails, and wide-open dune beaches of this 40,000-acre preserve. It is located at 99 Marconi Site Rd., Wellfleet, MA. Its 40-mile long strip of beach is, without a doubt, one of the most impressive showcases of the Massachusetts coastline.

Sandy Neck Beach Park: This 1,500-acre park in Barnstable is a welcoming place for pups. The off-leash season runs from September to March; dogs must be on a leash during late spring and summer months (April to August). The beach park is located at 495 Sandy Neck Rd., West Barnstable, MA.

The Brewster Beaches: The Town of Brewster allows dogs on its beaches during the offseason, from October to May.

Cape Cod is famously welcoming for dogs. Many areas have seasonal rules and regulations for pets in public spaces. Contact us at (508) 619-7658 for information on the proximity of our rentals to pet-friendly parks in Cape Cod.

Shops and Boutiques

If you want to do something a little special for your dog while on vacation, why not get them a souvenir of their own at one of the cape’s pet stores? Here are a few that are sure to get Fido’s tail wagging:

Pupcakes! Dog Boutique (366 Main St., Hyannis, MA) is certainly the most memorable of the pet stores in the area. This boutique specializes in dog clothing and accessories and has a bakery with healthy snacks for dogs.

Hot Diggity Dog Wash and Boutique (677 Main St., Dennis Port, MA) has all the equipment you need to for a great vacation in the sun with your furry family member. They sell leashes, toys, hygiene products, and offer a washing service – a must after a week at the beach!

Stop by Uptown Dog Cape Cod (410 W. Falmouth Hwy., Falmouth, MA) for pet supplies, including leashes, food, treats, and cleaning products.

All shops close by about 5 or 6 p.m. most days.
