First Night Chatham

First Night Chatham has been running for decades and is one of area’s best events.

On December 31, join the town for a variety of fun, family-friendly activities all day long.
This year’s theme is “First Night Goes Country,” and will include more than 70 performances and events.

Join in the town photo at the Chatham Lighthouse at noon, then watch performances by local bands, dance ensembles, and more. There will also be a costume race, as well as horse-drawn wagon rides.

At midnight, expect some of the best fireworks on Cape Cod, lit at Oyster Pond to signal the end of one year and the beginning of the next. This event is alcohol-free, and some events may require the purchase of a button, which is sold for $10.

Sandwich and Nantucket also have their own First Night events. Sandwich’s runs from 4 to 9 p.m. on December 31, with a parade taking place at 8 p.m.

First Light Provincetown

Provincetown is known for its elaborate parties, so expect New Year’s Eve to be no different. This Cape Cod New Year’s celebration spans multiple days, starting on December 28 and running until New Year’s Day.

This town-wide event features an incredible fireworks display, a craft fair, live music and other performances, and dance parties on New Year’s Eve. On January 1, take a chilly dip at the Polar Bear Plunge then warm-up over a bowl of chili afterward.

Nautical New Year’s Eve Dinner & Dance Party

While some like a good street party, others prefer something a little more elegant. If you fancy a trip to Nantucket, and island 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, New Year’s Eve is a great time to go.

The Nantucket Hotel is hosting its annual dinner and dance party that will offer a little glam to your Cape Cod getaway. Choose both the dinner and dance from 6:30 p.m. to just after midnight, or join for the dancing at 9:30 p.m.

Live entertainment includes a multi-instrument performance by acclaimed musician Matty B, followed by a DJ set for the dance party that follows.

This is a 21+ event, and resort chic/cruise ship attire is suggested. Tickets are $150 per person for dinner and dance, or $75 per person for the dance party only. Both include late-night snacks just before midnight.

New Year’s Eve Soiree

The town of Mashpee is also joining in on the New Year’s fun. The Popponesset Inn is hosting a true Cape Cod New Year’s party complete with dinner, dancing, and a champagne toast at midnight.

Expect an evening of tasty food, lots of fun, and grooving to music spun by a live DJ. Tickets are $95 per person, and can be purchased by calling the inn at (508) 539-8256.
